Its the start of the year and all things bright and beautiful..hopefully. ..so thought I’d give you a few Feng shui tips, which are universal. These are valid across the board..irrespective of compass directions, which ordinarily is a factor of utmost importance .
* De-clutter: The need to rid your surroundings of dead energy, which arises out of clutter, dark corners, is paramount. You may have noticed at times that a certain area of your life is as if stagnant, or in a state of decay, decline. One can always almost say with certainty that the corresponding area of the house is either cluttered or flawed in some way. To be on the safe side therefore ensure that no area of the house is neglected. Get rid of those unused items, empty out medicine cabinets, kitchen drawers, give away to charity belongings past their utility..they only attract negative energy or clog the space with stale vibrations.
* Sound Healing : After you de clutter, its important to cleanse the aura of the house of negative energies or negative ‘qi’ present. One of the potent methods is sound..that of melodious tingle, of large bells, or chimes. Its important that you go around the house with a bell which sounds pleasant to the ears, or a ‘Tibetan singing bowl’. It would be nice if you could chant a few mantras, Buddhist, Sanskrit, or whatever, simultaneously. Remember to concentrate especially on dark corners where sunlight is not accesssible, try and reach wherever possible, under beds, behind cupboards, and so on.
Incense Burning : Our ancients, of any civilisation , culture or race almost always had some kind of incense burning ritual that accompanied religious ceremonies. This was primarily because of the ability incense has to rid the surroundings of negative ‘qi’ or energy. Concentrate on electrical points, as well. You might have noticed that some people as if drain you of energy by their presence. At other times, after a guest has left the house, something unexpected, untoward occurs. If you believe in the ‘evil eye’, then all you have to do is sound healing, incense burning, after they leave…it wont harm you, so why not abide by the dictum ‘better to be safe than be sorry’.!
Sea Salt Cleansing : This is one of the most effective method of purifying the environment. In India, the ritual of bathing in the sea after an illnesss, or if suspected to be struck with’nazar’ or evil eye, is commonplace. The same principle applies while cleansing the home. Floors of the house to be mopped with water spiked with sea salt in generous quantities, if not everyday, atleast once a week and especially after illness , bereavement, or negative squabbles. Its a good idea to place bowls with salt in corners which cannot be accessed in the everyday cleansing routine e.g. top of almirahs , underneath beds etc. Replace the bowls with fresh salt whenever possible.
External Feng shui:This connotes care towards the exterior of your surroundings. Ensure that the entrance is always kept clean, inviting. A beautiful Ganesha picture or figurine, plants, or other holy symbols like Swasitka or Om, can be included. There should be enough light at the entrance. If daylight is not available, keep lighted with electrical light fixtures at all times of day. At dusk, lights must be lit before darkness. If placing a cactus plant at entrance of house, see to it that it is not within the inner sanctum, but outer.
* Water features : While it is believed to have created miracles when placed appropriately, water is also one of the most harmful elements if not used under guidance. All those self help books, with incomplete information can cause grievous harm. I personally know of those who have taken random decisions based on “Charuhas Naik” kind of information, which was distributed freely without pre-pondering on the consequences, and have faced great loss. There are some ‘never’s’ associated with water features, as in fountains, aquariums, which must be kept in mind.
a) Never place water features in your bedroom.
c) Never have a painting or an embellishment to do with water behind your office chair or bed.
Plants : Greenery is always a welcome sight. Have as many plants as you possibly can in your home. Ensure however that they look healthy, and green. Rotate them often so that sunlight is available to all regularly. Key to placements is balance and harmony. I have noticed that in some homes, despite the constant care and supervision. plants tend to wither away. This is evident of negativity. The above measures should then be carried out more often.
Never place live plants in your bedroom. Pictures of greenery towards the east and south east is fine . I am not much in favour of dried flower arrangemnt, or fossil like show pieces. .. they spell decay and death not growth and prosperity.
*Intention : To me, it is the ingredient which determines whether or not the steps taken to attract positivity will result in success or not. ” Good intentions are the seed of good actions”. So while placing a fortune symbol, as say, a ‘laughing Buddha, or even carrying out ritualistic cleansing, one must do it with the intention of its effectiveness and not in doubt of its efficacy. Advisably, any changes to your immediate surroundings should be made before 4.00p.m. and after 7 a.m
All of the above tips are those which I have personally experimented with. They are safe and cannot cause harm, therefore decided to share it with all. Over and above all else, a positive, frame of mind, with a benevolent outlook, healthy respect for oneself and others, is the magic mantra which invites well being. Negativity attracts negativity, the opposite being true as well. Karma is above all. A pure mind in a healthy body, a spirit which resonates with well being will eventually translate into contentment.
