Life Is Somewhat Like Coffee….

Life is somewhat like Coffee.. you got to acquire a taste for it !

And you have to work mighty hard in brewing up a perfect mug..much like life again. Not my cup of tea coffee.. you may say.. this humungous fuss over a cuppa. So we settle for the quick to make, easy to use,Β  one minute Nescafe. But does it come anywhere close to that one, arduously conjured up by Grandma? Never! Whoever said Life was easy. Ever tried roasting the ‘bean truths’ of life and assimilating them into your routine ? Never.. again!

And the comparison doesnt end there. Once you have acquired the distinct, indescribable, redoubtable flavor, it turns addictive ! Now there is no way you are going to relinquish that 9am 11am 4pm break!

Some of us dont take to it (coffee) at all or rather late..when the diagnosis and dietician strictly warn you against it. Life you see has run out..when we’d just about learnt to revel in the unmatched gifts exclusively meant for our joy, bliss delight, sheer happiness!

Now a forward ( courtesy Krishna Baru of Illinois, a regular commenter on the OP Nayyar post) that makes for a perfect denouement:

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to
visit their old university professor.

Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned
with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups porcelain, plastic,
glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite –
telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: ‘If
you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving
behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want
only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and
stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each other’s cups.

Now if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the
cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life
doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to
enjoy the coffee in it.’

So..

How about some coffee..for the soul πŸ™‚

  2. Great introspective article Kaveetaa. Just the other day I was reading this wonderful quote which says” life is like heady wine. Everyone reads the label on the bottle. Hardly anyone tastes the wine.
Buddha once pointed to a flower and asked each of his disciples to say something about it. One pronounced a lecture, another poem, yet another parable. Each outdid the other in depth and erudition. They all were mere Label Makers. Mahakashyap Buddha’s most deserving disciple smiled and held his tongue. Only he had seen the flower.
We really have no time. Our energies are spent in deciphering the label and that’s what causes the stress.

  3. Yeah neha . Yous said it. It uplifted me completely as well.. the anecdote had to be shared with you all plus bonus πŸ™‚

Anjali we often look but do not see, listen but do not hear and go on living ingloriously. We forget that joy lies in the little things. The pics of mussoorie which I had posted were meant to bring out this sentiment. Remember the poem ‘leisure’?

“what is this life full of care

we have no time to stand and stare”

This school poem at the time meant nothing.. today it is a constant reminder to me to behave myself πŸ™‚

  4. I’ll take some coffee if it’s ready, please,
    It’s okay if I don’t stir it,
No more sugar sorry, thank you,
It may decide the amount of cream,
Sometimes it may turn out a beautiful dream…

  5. Lets put in some worthy thought
On how we brew our coffee pot
Lotsa love and a little care
will enrich the flavour beyond compare.

    Yuva..enjoy your creamy dream πŸ™‚

  6. How true…the additiction to coffee is no different than the many life addictions that create stress and high blood pressure. I hope we all stressed out uppity types know that the caffeine in the coffee can cause high blood pressure.. I am addicted to the bad coffee from Starbucks. The latte kind. 20 years ago we paid 25 cents for a cup of good steaming coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Now we pay $3.00 for the flavor and experience of starbucks. Addiction is expensive…And yes they have added a horrible version of Chai, called Chai tea latte. Its more expensive than the latte.
